Construction of Press House

The five previous examples, demonstrate the companies ability to undertake, specific, difficult and environmental schemes, however, this project we feel combines all the skills within the company, in that the brief was simply to construct a Press House Building to house two sludge presses, but the space for the build is best described as a confined space.

The design and construct concept is as easy to apply to a building, as it is to a sludge storage lagoon, but the cramped site conditions, and that the site had to stay fully operational through out the scheme put a different slant on this project and tested our skills to the limit in terms of organisation, timing and best use of land available.

The steel clad structure has clearance levels on either side of less than 100mm with adjacent structure foundations, yet now complete sits neatly in line with the other site buildings.

A few innovative design features were included within the building, such as sectional flooring in the skip areas, bounded by kerbs making it very easy to replaced damaged sections, without causing problems with the rest of the building when operational. Sectional cladding, to permit the extraction of a complete press without affecting the other operational press. The photographs show various stages of construction.
