Rosary Road Cemetery Wall

Retaining Wall with a Difference

During the course of many years of trading, we undertake the construction of retaining walls, usually concrete cast in situ types of various heights and thickness. However, the scheme here was just such a wall, but with a difference, in that it had to be faced with brickwork to match the existing walls in the cemetery.

The character of the wall was the key issue and a specific lime mortar was used in the laying of bricks in an unusual brick bond. The photographs show various stages of construction, including one which shows the traditional concrete retaining wall being faced up with the bricks. On completion of the wall structure, we had to make the entrance as the rest of the site, with a cobble drain and tar sprayed main drag.

This is a good example of quality, which we strive to maintain in our contracts. We are constantly looking to increase the scope of these sorts of contracts which require considerable thought in the initial stages, to ensure the finished article is as close to perfection as possible.
